Losing track of days...

Today, the four woman bobsled team of Marion, Ally, Annika and Michelle hiked it up to Whistler to see heats 1 & 2 of the Women's two person bobsled...Which we all now know that Canada won gold and silver!!!

In Whistler Village...

Annika is such a card...

I'm starting to think that Carl might be stalking me?

On the gondola ride up... (much more civilized than the hour walk up the mountain for the biathlon!)

Up the mountain...

It is so hard to actually catch the bobsleds on camera...most of my photos ended up being of just the track! (one of the medical guys took this one for me!)

Signing off from Whistler!

Day 10, 11 &12

It's getting a little hard theses days to come up with blog ideas when I'm volunteering for long shifts where there's no photos allowed... Sometimes when I'm working the gate, I don't even see a curler the entire night... In fact, last night, I was so busy guarding a curtain, I totally missed seeing Gretsky who was 10 feet away.

So I started a video project with the other volunteers but it's taking longer then I anticipated. But stayed tuned for that...

But I didn't want you to give up on my blog so thought I would at least give you one story...

Tonight, I had Carl Lewis in my section...he's out in the concourse coming back to his section (and at least 10 yards away) and I say to the fireman who's beside me, "I'm going to race Carl up the stairs" and he says, "you'll probably beat him, he's old now". So I'm laughing a little and Carl (who was not within earshot) comes up to me and says "What's going on that's making you smile?" So I tell him I'm just a happy person...and he says, "no really, share with me, I need a good laugh"....Talk about getting busted!!

Here's a pic of some of my new friends..

Day 9

The last two days have been my own personal Olympic Marathon... Getting up at 4:30am...leaving the house at 5am...walking 20 blocks uphill to the Vancouver Olympic Centre...dodging early morning street people looking for cigarettes...standing for hours, saying good morning no less than 150 times, then walking home to drop into bed...And I've never had such a good time!!! And I get to see Norway skip Thomas Ulsrud in his funky pants up close...(are you jealous Esme?)

Just when I'm about to fall asleep and my blog was heading downhill anyways....in walks Ally volunteering to guest blog...

Hi I'm Ally, daughter of Marion (guest blogger from day 5). Today I went to Live City Vancouver! It had a giant screen showing the Hockey game (Men's Canada V.S. Switzerland). Live City is nice, they tried to make it extra fun for kids, and they had two of the olympic mascots there (Miga and Quatci)but I must say it was mainly for the big screen. Speaking of the mascots, check out my wiki space at http://kootscorner.wikispaces.com/Mascots

Half way through the game we head over to Moxies which was really nice. Oh my goodness there was a crazy amount of cheering, it got so intence! When it went into overtime, the crowd was going crazy! SOOOOO much fun! And when the game was over and Canada had one in the shootout, it was true pandimonium! So So So exciting, there were people cheering and chanting and waving flags around! Yikes! In robson square the Zip line has an over 5 hour wait! Really is it worth it? If any of you guys went on the Zipline, PLEASE comment if it was worth the wait? Well I have to go to bed now. I am so tired from my exciting fun filled day. P.S Way to go Canada!!!

ps from Michelle... Tammy, I've now opened up comments so everyone can leave them.. just go under anonymous
pss... what's a wiki space and do I need one?

Day 8

Guest Blogger Danielle

My second day of olympic festivities had me up at the crack of seven (in the morning) cheering for Canada at curling. There was sunshine and if you look closely there is a soccer field! And it's green!

I do not know a whole lot about the sport, but could not wait to yell at the top of my lungs "SWEEP!"

The atomosphere in the arena was very energetic. Everyone was really into the matches. Even at 9am there was beer, hot dogs, cow bells and bull horns. Canada played Japan (left hand side) in a nailbiter with Canada winning by one! Yeah!

Just makes me proud to be Canadian.

Womens hockey was my second athletic even of the day. By the end of this trip i think i will be able to be in the next olympics. I still say i could ski jump!

Meghan Agosta had a hat trick in the 13-1 win by canada over sweden. These are her proud grandparents cheering her on. So CUTE! Hope the Swedish team has a better meatball recipe than playbook!

These puck bunnies where quite amusing and kept the crowd laughing. not sure where they picked up the viking!

"Oh Canada, our home and native land..."

In a sea of red and white our Canadian women did us all proud once again. Could not have asked for a better end to my olympic experience. Thanx Mich!
Hockey ticket :$200
Cab ride trying to find venue: $25
Walk-in clinic: $75
Going to Vancouver Olympics: Priceless!

Day 7

Today the alarm went off at 4:30am...so that we could catch a skytrain, to catch a sea bus, to catch a bus to Whistler. My sister and I had tickets for the Women’s biathlon... but we didn’t know that we had to hike a marathon to see it. We arrived at the Whistler Olympic Park at 8:30am thinking we had some time to kill so we almost took a bus into Whistler Village. At the last second, we decided to stay and head up to the event. (good thing or we would have actually missed the whole event!)

On the way up, it was like a winter wonderland with the biggest snowflakes falling. Finally, some snow at the Olympics!! This amused Danielle for the first 5 minutes but the novelty wore off soon. It turned out to be over an hour hike up the mountain to get to the venue... (it might have not been so bad if we hadn't gotten soaked in the rain in Vancouver)

Once we got to the top, it was quite amazing. I had no idea that biathlon was such an exciting sport to watch. The German fans were crazy and loud but for good reason as they won the gold!

Check out some of the live action..

At the top, I ran into some of the ice carvers that I met while at the Canada Games in the Yukon in 2007...Small World...

The hike down was not as bad...and then we headed off to Whistler Village for a little sightseeing and shopping... At the rings, they have made a makeshift memorial for Nodar Kumaritashvili, the Georgian Luger.

And the gold medal goes to... (drumroll please!)

They asked me to join the Canadian Bobsled team but I told them no, as my thighs are big enough and that is without even trying...

A sleepy bus ride down the mountain got us home just in time for the Victory Ceremony...We got to see Canadian Snowboarder, Mike Robertson get his silver medal...

And of course we ended the night with some Pageless Barenaked Ladies...

Just another day in the life of the Burlock Sisters...
